Charred Timber, with a difference
Yakisugi, otherwise known as Shou Sugi Ban, is an ancient Japanese method of treating timber in order to create a blackened charcoal finish to cladding. In recent years Shou Sugi Ban has become increasingly popular with architects due to its very dark, textured and contemporary finish. But of course, we had to add our own twist.
It is well documented that burning timber is damaging to the environment as harmful fumes and toxins are released into the atmosphere, ultimately reducing the quality of the air we breathe.
As a company we made the decision not to offer conventional charred timber as this goes against our commitment to the environment. We’ve done a lot of research and have come up with our own range of Shou Sugi Ban, the best bit? We don’t burn/char the timber. We simply texture and coat it in a water based coating system. This results in an environmentally friendly alternative that is easy to maintain, full of texture and character and is available in a much wider range of colours.
