Starbucks

Accoya cladding was chosen by Starbucks for their newest drive-thru in Birmingham and was factory coated in Teknos Cotswold Oak. The new store will provide a community space to meet friends and collaborate together in a relaxed environment.

The Coating System

Teknos Cotswold Oak was the system specified by the customer and as a factory coated product consists of the following specification;

  • Teknos Teknol Aqua 1410-01 Wood Preservative
  • Teknos Aquaprimer 2900-02 Primer (Base Coat) – Cotswold Oak
  • Teknos AquaTop 2600-21 Top coat –  Cotswold Oak

Once machined to profile the timber was delivered to ourselves to be factory prepared and coated under controlled conditions as part of our Teknos Approved Applicator and Accoya Approved Manufacturer agreement.

Why Use Accoya?

This process involves the alteration of the wood’s cellular structure, resulting in improved technical characteristics and significantly heightened strength and durability. Natural wood contains “free hydroxyl groups” that interact with and release moisture as weather conditions change.

Consequently, untreated wood is prone to expansion and contraction, especially when utilized outdoors for purposes like siding, window frames, and door frames. The fluctuation in wood’s dimensions often leads to cracking and decay, thereby affecting its overall lifespan.

This inherent property makes regular wood vulnerable to expansion and contraction, especially when utilized outdoors for applications like siding, window frames, and door frames.
