Opaque coatings are ideal for timber cladding projects that require a solid and consistent aesthetic. Opaque coatings hide the natural tones of the timber, offering a uniform coloured appearance for your facade, with the natural figuring of the timber (grain pattern) still visible through the coating.
Timber cladding is a natural material and each species has its own characteristics which need to be considered at the design stage in order to optimise performance. Considerations also need to be made to factors such as species, profile, orientation and surface finish in order to specify the correct coating system.
All of our coatings are water based systems which are environmentally friendly and contain low levels of VOCs (volatile organic compounds). Opaque coating systems vary in the film build and amount of coats required depending on the manufacturer and system specification. Our team will specify the most suitable coating system based on the timber species selected, building design, desired aesthetic and various other factors.
We offer one of the largest selections of shades from various colour ranges such as RAL, NCS and British Standard with our colour matching service also being available for projects requiring a truly bespoke cladding finish.
View samples from the comfort of your home or office using our virtual samples tool. This is the quickest, easiest and most sustainable way of viewing samples. Zoom in and out, tilt to different angles and even download for a later date if needed.
The swatches above are various species and have been produced professionally in factory conditions. The substrate selected will have an effect on the overall appearance and finish of the product. Therefore these swatches should be used as a guide and official samples will be provided in your selected species, surface finish and shade for approval before processing.

All opaque coating systems will require maintenance in order to maintain aesthetics and performance. We recommend an annual inspection in order to identify early any signs of coating degradation. Cleaning is also recommended as required in order to remove any dirt or air borne pollutants which can become a food source for algae. Maintenance intervals are determined by a range of factors such as the timber species, profile, building location and cardinal direction. For more information about maintenance please contact our specification team.
