Wood Stains

Wood Stain coating systems for external applications.

Wood Stain coating systems offer an extremely natural and rustic appearance. They are a matte finish with high penetration properties, which are low-film forming on the surface of the timber. Wood stain coating systems soak into the timber and offer excellent UV protection and high water vapour permeability.

The Benefits of Factory Finishing

The operation of our vacuum coating machine means we achieve a flawless and consistent finish. Factory finishing offers a range of benefits to end users. Primarily , a reduction in preparation and clean up time as timber arrives fully coated, ready to install. Timber is coated in our purpose-built factory, which is temperature controlled, meaning the weather doesn’t affect the application of coatings, and coating can be carried out year-round.All the timber we coat is sanded as standard using our in-line sanding machine prior to it being coated. This means each length of timber has been processed in exactly the same way from start to finish. We are audited yearly by the paint manufacturers in order to be approved applicators and ensure the quality of the coating system applied.

FAQs

Good design detailing is crucial; for-instance with cladding avoiding ground contact, achieving a design which sheds water at eaves level and ensures adequate airflow behind the cladding and orientating. The selection of good quality, high grade, durable timbers will also assist in maximising the life of your coated product. In-service maintenance is a factor that should be built into your design, planning how maintenance will be carried out at the design stage can save large amounts of time and money later down the line when service maintenance is required. Your coated timber needs to be kept clean in order to prevent the buildup of dirt and surface fungi.

Maintenance will vary from project to project and depend on a range of factors. We advise carrying out an annual inspection, either in the spring or later summer/ autumn. This will allow you to visually inspect for any damage to the coating and carry out any necessary repairs to the coating.

Due to its low film forming nature, wood stains are a simple coating system to maintain / fix in the event that the timber is damaged. Ensure the area around the damage is clean and apply a touch-up coat to the damaged area and wipe any excess away with a cloth.

Cleaning should be carried out periodically in order to prevent the build up of dirt and possible algae growth. This can be done using warm soapy water and a microfiber cloth, avoid rubbing hard as this may damage the coating system. Once complete rinse the cladding down with a hosepipe on a gentle setting to remove any bubbles. We recommend cleaning your timber after a few wet/ damp days as it is easier to remove the dirt.

Timber is a natural product and you may experience occasional signs of resin exudation, usually in the summer months. The appearance of resin can vary depending on the species of timber but is generally a thick sticky substance. If exudation occurs let the resin dry on the surface of the timber, avoid trying to remove it while it is still soft. Once dry the resin oxidises and forms a white crystalline powder on the surface of the timber. If left, the rain will gradually wash away the crystalline powder naturally. In order to expedite the process use warm water and a microfiber cloth to wash away the powder.

We offer wood stain coatings from a range of coating manufacturers, this allows us to offer the most suitable coating system for each project.
